Debt Management and Issuance
At Northland Securities, we believe our clients will be most successful if they are focused not only on financial transactions, but on long-term financial planning as a means to achieve good debt management. We work with our clients to develop long-term capital plans, which include financial policies and the identification of various revenue streams. After assisting the issuer to develop a capital plan that is customized to meet their needs, we ensure that each successive financing is executed in a manner consistent with the policies set forth in the long‑term plan.
Northland's approach to debt management for its clients includes a review of the structure of existing debt and analyzing the financial resources available to the issuer. An assessment of the types of revenue available should be considered, as well as the stability of the revenue over time, and forecasts for revenue growth. These results will be compared to the existing debt structure to determine how much debt can be issued, while still maintaining sufficient cash flow coverage. Review of this data can be compiled into a Debt Management Study. The Debt Management Study forms the foundation from which to issue future bond issues. Finally, a review of the legal structure will provide the basis for the consideration of financing alternatives that are available.
As a full-service financial services firm, Northland Securities is uniquely qualified to assist its clients with financing alternatives to efficiently and effectively raise funds for capital projects. Our trading and underwriting desk is active on a daily basis in various financing alternatives that allow us to develop finance plans with our clients that consider various structuring options and methods of sale. We have expertise in pay‑as‑you‑go financing, tax-exempt and taxable bonds, lease transactions and certificates of participation.
